My Remarkable Clients – anything is everything

My Remarkable Clients – anything is everything

If I say:
“finishing each other’s sentences”
“food for the soul”
and “flash mob” … do you see the common thread?

Through the years of creating one of a kind jewelry for my clients, I have noticed some common threads. Hundreds of clients… And they are consistently remarkable.

My coach (yes, I have a coach!) … My coach says that how you do anything is how you do everything. She’s right, and my clients are remarkable people who look for remarkable ways to honor their relationships and their stories.

Remarkable

I enjoy my client consultations because I get to learn about these remarkable people and their lives. Jewelry is highly personal, and so often there’s a narrative attached to a special piece of jewelry. Naturally, these narratives are part of our conversations, and I’m honored to be trusted with these precious stories.

One client of mine a couple of years back told me that he had been searching for a locket for his wife since he learned that she wanted one. All the locket offerings out there (in traditional jewelry stores mostly), just felt ordinary. When he found my website, he found something different, something thoughtful, and something “remarkable.” (Here is the story of that locket and his words about our project.)Lion-Monkey-Airplane-locket-openright

He went on to say that he doesn’t want to live an ordinary life. He wants to live a remarkable life, at every turn.

How you do anything is how you do everything.

Working with him was a joy for me, as it is to work with so many of my clients who are living remarkably.

Currently I’m working on an engagement ring for a client who’s planning a flash mob marriage proposal. He values exhilaration, joy and grand gestures. The ring will be one of a kind with a texture created with actual earth from the location where they couple met. (That little bag of dirt is being shipped to me on the East Coast from the Pacific Northwest.)

He values closeness, security and unconditional love and acceptance. The ring will include a narrative timeline with diamonds marking significant events and shifts in their life together, as well as a mixed metal representation of the migration of their roles as their relationship has matured and they’ve grown to finish each other’s sentences. Palladium white gold forms will represent each of them, on a background of subtle but glowing yellow gold representing the ever present spiritual connection between them despite the outward circumstances through the years.

I’m working on a baby spoon for a client that – as a vessel for transferring nourishment to the child – is a metaphor for my client –  the child’s aunt – and her promise to always be a source for nourishment, enrichment and comfort for him as he grows. She values growth and support.

I am most comfortable in my work at the place where art, jewelry and story meet. My work is narrative jewelry, and may it be about so much more than precious metals and gemstones.
